(Guqin Introduction)

Guqin, also named the Seven-stringed Zither, is one of the oldest musical instruments in China. It is said that it dates back three thousand years, although some books claim it can be traced back even further.

Some people believe that the Guqin finds its origin with Voltsch, one of the China ancestors, and he peeled paulownia wood in order to make the Guqin. Others say Shun, another Chinese ancestor, sang about the south wind with the five-stringed zither. So it can be inferred that during the Shun peroid, the five-stringed zither was popular. The five strings have their own names as follows: Gong, Shang, Jue, Zhi, and Yu.
